Mural and Panoramic Wallpaper Installation in Park City and Utah

Scenic, panoramic, custom digital, and large-format murals. Ordered to our measurement, sequenced on the floor, registered across the run. Installation-only, headquartered in Park City.

What a mural is

One image, delivered in numbered panels

A mural is a single image, scenic, panoramic, hand-printed, or custom digital, printed across a set of numbered panels that compose one continuous picture around the wall. Unlike a repeating paper, there is no repeat to hide a mismatch and no spare roll to recut from. The set is the set.

Murals are ordered to the wall, which means the measurement is the installation. An inch of error at the order is a missing sky at the ceiling or a horizon that stops short of the corner. So we measure first, the house prints to our dimensions, and the panels are sequenced on the floor before any of them meets the paste.

Murals are the second-largest share of Mancini's residential work, from Park City great rooms to Salt Lake stairwells, and the largest share of our commercial feature walls.

Five kinds of mural, five sets of rules

The word mural covers a hand-printed Zuber and a photo of your own. They share a wall and nothing else.

The measurement is the installation

Ordered to the wall, with room to be wrong about the wall

No wall is square. Ceilings are not level. A wall reads 14 feet 2 inches at the top and 14 feet 1 inch at the base, and the ceiling line falls half an inch across the run. A mural ordered to the average is short somewhere.

So the wall is measured at the top, the middle, and the base, and at both ends of its height. The widest and tallest readings govern. The house prints the image with a bleed of two to three inches on every side, and the crew trims the bleed at the wall so the picture meets the trim, the ceiling, and the corner without a gap or a stretch.

  • Every mural house publishes its own overage rule; we measure to it, not to a generic allowance
  • Outlets, switches, and vents are located on the drawing so no important part of the image lands on a cover plate
  • Scale is proofed against a print of the room, not a screen, before the order is placed

Registration

A sixteenth on panel one is three quarters of an inch by panel twelve

A mural forgives nothing at the seam. The mountain ridge on panel three has to meet the ridge on panel four to the width of a pencil line, and every panel after it inherits whatever error came before.

So the first panel is hung to a plumb line, not to the corner, because the corner is not plumb. Every subsequent panel is registered to the one before it and checked against the line before it is smoothed down. Where the house prints registration marks, they are used. Where it does not, we cut our own reference into the bleed.

  • Overlap-and-double-cut seams are cut through both layers in one pass with a fresh blade, so the two edges are the same edge
  • Butted seams are set by hand and never rolled flat on a textured or printed face
  • Panels are dry-fit on the floor in sequence before paste; a wrong panel is caught there, not on the wall

A drift of a sixteenth of an inch on panel one becomes three quarters of an inch by panel twelve. The sky no longer meets the sky.

Complex geometry

Stairwells, vaults, and double-height walls

The murals most often ordered short are the ones on the most dramatic walls: a stairwell that runs two storeys, a great room with a vaulted ceiling, a hallway that turns a corner mid-scene.

Each of those is drawn before the print is ordered. A stair wall is ordered to its full rectangle so the scene continues down the run and is cut to the string line at the wall. A vault is ordered to its highest point and trimmed to the rake. A corner mid-scene is planned so the image turns on a quiet passage rather than on a focal point. The crew brings the staging the wall demands; a double-height wall is not installed from a ladder.

  • Double-height and stairwell walls are measured with a laser and drawn to scale
  • Staging and platforms are part of the scope and the schedule
  • The image is oriented to the room's primary sightline, which on a stair is from the landing, not the floor

Where murals perform

The right walls, and the wrong ones

Where a mural belongs

  • Entries and stair halls
  • Dining rooms and great-room feature walls
  • Powder rooms
  • Children's rooms and playrooms
  • Primary bedroom headboard walls
  • Commercial lobbies, lounges, and branded walls

Where it does not

  • Steam showers and full baths on paper substrates
  • Walls that are not yet flat and sealed
  • Behind a range or a sink splash
  • Textured or freshly painted walls for peel-and-stick
  • Walls in sustained direct sun on non-UV inks
  • Any wall not measured before the order

What a mural demands at the wall

Five disciplines before the image reads as one

The print is right more often than the installation. These are the steps that keep them equal.

01

Measured to the rule

Every mural house has its own overage rule. The wall is measured at top, middle, and base, and the widest reading governs, plus the house's bleed.

02

Dry-fit and sequenced

Panels are laid out on the floor in order and checked against the wall before paste. A wrong or damaged panel is found here.

03

Registration held

The first panel goes to a plumb line. Every panel after it is registered to the one before and checked before it is smoothed down.

04

Scale proofed

Custom prints are proofed against the room before the order. A pattern that reads right on a screen can read wrong at nine feet.

05

Geometry planned

Vaults, angles, and stair diagonals are drawn before the print is ordered, and the staging the wall needs is on the schedule.

Living with a mural

Care, lifespan, and what to keep

A picture that happens to be wallpaper.

Cleaning

Non-woven and vinyl murals take a soft, barely damp cloth; paper and hand-printed murals take a dry dusting only. Never a cleaner, never a scrub. Test any cloth on the bleed offcut we leave you.

Sun

Inks fade under sustained direct light, and blues go first. West-facing walls are assessed at the measurement. Most digital houses offer UV-stable inks; we will tell you when to ask for them.

Repairs

A damaged panel in a mural cannot be recut from a spare roll. Keep the bleed offcuts and the order details we leave with you; most houses can reprint a single panel to the original file.

Humidity

Non-woven substrates are stable across the seasons. Paper murals behave like paper and want a sealed wall and a normal room. Neither belongs in a steam room.

Lifespan

Installed to specification on a sealed wall, a mural serves as long as the room does. Seams stay closed because they were cut, not overlapped and pressed.

Removal

Non-woven murals strip dry in whole panels, which is why we specify the substrate. Paper murals are softened and lifted, and the wall repaired after.

Why Mancini

The standard a mural demands

01

Precision Craft

Registration held across the run to the width of a pencil line.

Every panel to the plumb line. Every seam cut, not pressed. Every image proofed against the room before the order. The standard is measured in what you do not see.

02

Specification Discipline

Installed to the instructions each house publishes, panel by panel.

Every mural house writes its own overage rule, seam method, and paste. We read it before the measurement and follow it at the wall. No shortcuts, no substitutions.

03

Responsive Capacity

Four active crews. Twelve trained installers. Staging for the walls that need it.

Multi-crew capacity means a mural project moves on your timeline, and a double-height wall is installed from a platform, not a ladder.

The houses

Murals we know at the wall

Each house prints, backs, and seams its murals differently and publishes its own instructions. These are the ones we install most, and what each asks for.

Zuber

Woodblock-printed panoramics from Rixheim since 1797, delivered as numbered lengths, often untrimmed. Paste-the-paper, hung to timing; the set is finite and treated as irreplaceable.

Installation notes

Rebel Walls

Swedish custom-sized murals printed to the wall's dimensions on non-woven, with the house's own bleed rule. Ordered to our measurement, dry-fit, overlap and double-cut.

Installation notes

Calico Wallpaper

Brooklyn marbled and gradient murals in sequenced panels. Gradients are aligned across every seam; the sequence is confirmed on the floor first.

Installation notes

Élitis

French wide-width panoramics on textile and non-woven. Wide goods change the seam count, and the instructions per collection are read before the order.

Installation notes

Arte

Belgian textural murals, some on embossed non-woven. Registration is held across dimensional texture, and the collection instructions govern the paste.

Installation notes

York Wallcoverings

US-made murals and panel sets on prepasted and non-woven substrates, sold in fixed panels. Prepasted sets are activated and booked to the house's timing.

Installation notes

Anthropologie

Exclusive mural collections produced with partner printers, sold by the panel set. The label decides the method; the wall is measured to the set before purchase.

Questions

Fifteen mural questions, answered

What homeowners and designers ask before ordering a mural, and after.

Mancini Wallpapers, headquartered in Park City. Murals are the second-largest share of our residential work and the largest share of our commercial feature walls, across Summit, Wasatch, Salt Lake, and Utah counties.

Yes, and it is the step that matters most. James measures the wall at top, middle, and base, the widest and tallest readings govern, and the house prints to those dimensions plus its bleed. A mural ordered from a tape measure across the middle of the wall is short somewhere.

Every mural house publishes its own bleed and overage rule, usually two to three inches on every side. We order to the house's rule, not a generic allowance, and the crew trims the bleed at the wall so the image meets the ceiling, the trim, and the corners without a gap.

It is found on the floor, not on the wall. Every set is unpacked, checked against the order, and dry-fit in sequence before paste. A wrong panel is reported to the house for reprint before anything goes up.

Yes. The vault is drawn before the print is ordered, the image is ordered to the highest point, and the panels are trimmed to the rake at the wall. The same applies to dormers and sloped ceilings.

Yes, and it is one of the best places for one. The stair wall is ordered to its full rectangle so the scene continues down the run, cut to the string line at the wall, and oriented to the sightline from the landing. The crew brings the staging; a two-storey wall is not hung from a ladder.

On a non-woven or vinyl mural installed with overlap-and-double-cut seams, the seam is the same cut edge on both panels and is not visible from the room. On hand-printed paper murals with butted seams, the join is a hairline and is part of the material.

A flat, sealed wall. Texture and trowel marks read through a mural as waves in the image, so textured walls are skim-coated first. Fresh paint must cure before a mural goes over it. Where our scope includes preparation, we prime to the manufacturer's specification.

In a powder room, yes. In a room with a shower or tub, only on a vinyl substrate with sealed seams and good ventilation. Paper murals do not belong in wet rooms.

As long as the room does, when it is installed to specification on a sealed wall. Seams stay closed because they were cut rather than pressed, and the inks hold where the light is indirect. West-facing walls are assessed at the measurement.

Yes. Send the product page and the wall before you order the quantity. We will tell you the substrate, the seam method, and whether the wall suits it, and we will measure so you buy the right number of panels.

The printing is done by a mural house, not by us, but we can guide it. The photograph needs enough resolution for the print size, which we check against the wall dimensions, and we measure the wall so the file is prepared at the right proportion. Then we install what arrives.

We advise on them and install them where the wall suits them: smooth, cured, and sealed. On textured or freshly painted walls, peel-and-stick lifts at the edges within weeks. For a feature wall you intend to keep, a pasted non-woven mural is the better specification.

No. Mancini is installation-only. The mural is chosen and purchased by you or your designer, and we install what arrives. We suggest quantities and dimensions; we never select the product.

With a complimentary on-site measurement, before you order. James measures the wall himself, the dimensions go to the house, and a written proposal follows. Send the property address and a photo of the wall to begin.

Begin your mural project

Measure before you order

Send the property address and a photo of the wall. James will come back with a time to measure it himself, so the mural is printed to the wall rather than trimmed to fit it.
